GECEM (Groupe d’Etude des Cétacés de Méditerranée) is a non-profit organization involved since 1991 in the study of cetaceans in the Mediterranean, in particular Risso’s dolphin and bottlenose dolphin. GECEM has been studying these species for fifteen years in Corsica and is working along Provencal coast since 2009. GECEM activities include behavioural and photo-identification studies of dolphin populations at sea (850 individuals Tursiops truncatus and 500 individuals Grampus griseus are currently catalogued by GECEM). GECEM is also coordinator of the French National Stranding Network for the Mediterranean coastline since 2000. The NGO work in close collaboration with GIS3M since its creation and is an historical partner of Port-Cros National Park and the Pelagos Sanctuary.
